Electrician classes for home repair basics
When I was a kid, my mom took a class at a local community college to learn how to do basic electrician repairs for home - ie. replacing an outdated or dysfunctional electrical socket, replacing a lightswitch, installing a chandelier, etc.

Is there any place around town that offers sort of an "adult ed" version of an electrician's class? I Googled for electrician courses but only came up with HVAC/career-orientated/degree programs.

    Thanks for any tips!

    Running Stores
I'm looking for a good store for running shoes/running gear. I've been getting ready to run my first 5k, and while I have a somewhat decent pair of shoes from Sports Authority, I'd like to get something a bit more.... better. Or something (forgive my awful grammar).

I tried to Yelp something near Lakeview, but the search finds me things like Pink Frog, which is kind of definitely not what I'm looking for.

Specifically what I am looking for, though, is some place where they'll check you out, check your pronation, etc... since so far I've had to push past a lot of pain that hasn't improved as I keep training.

I'd like to locate something near Lakeview, but am willing to head to other neighborhoods as necessary.

    Exotic, veg-friendly restaurant ideas?
I just spent half an hour browsing restaurant review sites. Every time I do this, I get totally overwhelmed with all the choices! So, I'm coming here for advice again...

An acquaintance will be in town briefly next month, and I'm trying to find a good dinner restaurant. She's staying a little north of the Loop, but I realize the best restaurants -- especially the kind she likes -- will probably be found in neighborhoods, so we can go anywhere in the city.

I'm looking for a place that:

-has vegetarian options (she eats a mostly veg. diet, with occasional seafood)
-is something special/different (ethnic/exotic options are perfect -- I've found that Chicago has many highly rated sushi places, so this is one idea; or maybe tapas; something else ethnic?)
-has good atmosphere (we're both creative dreamers, so an otherworldly setting is usually desired)
    -is not crazy expensive

Strike me with your flashes of genius!

    Thanks for your help. :)

    A Question
Can anyone tell me why the Lindburgh Beacon (the light on top of the Playboy/Palmolive building) was on tonight? I thought it had been disassembled in the early 1980s.

    Urban Prairie
I'm doing my final photography project on urban prairie - places around the city that have started to revert to their natural state. I'm looking for empty lots full of weeds, abandoned buildings, untended gardens, that are visually interesting and easy to access. Anyone have places they can recommend?

    Lawyer / Attorney
I'm looking for a lawyer or attorney that specializes in immigration law. Anyone have any recommendations?

Preferably in the South burbs. But, as long as it's not in the north or northwest burbs, it should be ok.

    Thanks. :)

    Hello ladies and gents...

Forgive me indulging in something of a long shot! I'm from Manchester, England, and I'm coming to Chicago as part of my vacation. I'll be in town from Tuesday through to Saturday.

I was due to travel with a friend and as such I bought two tickets to the Blackhawks-Maple Leafs game on Friday night. As it is, for long and complicated reasons, I'll be travelling on my own. I've only ever seen one NHL game previous to this trip and I'll still be going even if it's just me and I sit next to an empty seat. However, that seems a bit of a waste.

So my question is, is there a local fan who'd like to take my spare ticket and come along too? I'd appreciate the extra experience of watching the game with a local who can probably teach me a few things, and er...well, you get to have me buy you a beer between periods. And you get to laugh at my stunning ineptitude when it comes to the game of ice hockey.

All I ask is face value ($95) for the ticket, which is in block 208 of United Center.

Leave comments or you can email me: ben dot rushworth at gmail dot com.

    Thanks!

Anyone still like ska (besides me)?
Some great ska bands are playing the Metro, and I've got a pair of tickets. Unfortunately, things have come up, and I won't be able to go.

I'm looking for face value, $15 a piece.

The bands on the bill are as follows:

    Mustard Plug
    The Toasters
    Voodoo Glow Skulls
and more! (maybe only one more, I can't access the Metro's site for some reason)

PLease, if you're looking for something to do on Saturday, please let me know.

    Thanks!
